Casting a Circle
I wanted to talk a little about casting circles and protecting yourself while doing spell work, especially now that were getting near the time of year where the veil between realms will be thinning making it easier for mischievous spirits/negative energies to interfere & linger.
Casting a circle should be done before any spell-work, ritual, or magickal workings. It’s the best way to protect yourself, think of it as your bubble to hold in all the energy you’ll be creating as well as acting as a barrier to keep out what’s not welcome.

Items needed to cast a circle:
Representations for each element (Earth, Air, Fire, Water)
Your preferred smudging choice (sage, incense, smudge spray)
I personally use my besom to swept my area as well but if you don’t have one then just put that extra energy into it while smudging.
All items you’ll need during spell work. This is important because once you cast your circle you shouldn’t leave (unless it’s an emergency *like you really have to potty!*)
Steps (mind you this is how I do it, every witch is different):
Cleanse yourself and space
Begin by “drawing” the outline of your circle. Either with your wand, athame, or simply your finger.
While “drawing” say a blessing to bless the circle for your use. Such as “𝕀 𝕕𝕣𝕒𝕨 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕔𝕚𝕣𝕔𝕝𝕖 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕥𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟, 𝕟𝕠𝕟𝕖𝕘𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝕠𝕣 𝕤𝕡𝕚𝕣𝕚𝕥𝕤 𝕞𝕒𝕪 𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝕞𝕪 𝕤𝕒𝕔𝕣𝕖𝕕 𝕤𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕖. 𝔹𝕝𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕖𝕕 𝔹𝕖”
Always enter your circle from the East, the direction which the Sun rises*
Welcome Elements, starting with the North (Earth). Light a candle or place down whatever represents the element and say: ““𝔾𝕦𝕒𝕣𝕕𝕚𝕒𝕟𝕤 𝕠𝕗 𝕥𝕙𝕖 *𝔻𝕚𝕣𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟*, 𝔼𝕝𝕖𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕠𝕗 *𝕋𝕙𝕖𝕚𝕣 𝔼𝕝𝕖𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕥*, 𝕀 𝕔𝕒𝕝𝕝 𝕥𝕠 𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕓𝕖 𝕡𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕕𝕦𝕣𝕚𝕟𝕘𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕤𝕡𝕖𝕝𝕝 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕜. 𝕀 𝕒𝕤𝕜 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕡𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕤𝕖 𝕛𝕠𝕚𝕟 𝕞𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕓𝕝𝕖𝕤𝕤 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕥𝕖𝕔𝕥 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕔𝕚𝕣𝕔𝕝𝕖.” Do this for each element working your way around the circle.
Once everyone is called upon & present state that you’ll be beginning your workings. “ℕ𝕠 𝕦𝕟𝕨𝕒𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕣𝕘𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕠𝕣𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕚𝕥𝕚𝕖𝕤 𝕒𝕣𝕖 𝕨𝕖𝕝𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕖, 𝕠𝕟𝕝𝕪 𝕥𝕙𝕠𝕤𝕖 𝕨𝕙𝕠 𝕀’𝕧𝕖 𝕚𝕟𝕧𝕚𝕥𝕖𝕕 𝕚𝕟𝕥𝕠 𝕞𝕪 𝕤𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕖. 𝕋𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕔𝕚𝕣𝕔𝕝𝕖 𝕚𝕤 𝕟𝕠𝕨 𝕔𝕒𝕤𝕥, 𝕤𝕠 𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 𝕚𝕥 𝕓𝕖!”
*Begin doing your work knowing that you and your space are protected.*
Once finished be sure to close your circle. Face each direction (counter clockwise this time, but this is your practice so if you’re more comfortable starting North again than do so) and say: “ℍ𝕒𝕚𝕝 𝕥𝕠 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝔾𝕦𝕒𝕣𝕕𝕚𝕒𝕟𝕤 𝕠𝕗 𝕥𝕙𝕖*𝕕𝕚𝕣𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟* 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕓𝕖𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕡𝕣𝕖𝕤𝕖𝕟𝕥, 𝕞𝕒𝕪 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕘𝕠 𝕚𝕟 𝕡𝕖𝕒𝕔𝕖 & 𝕜𝕟𝕠𝕨 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕒𝕣𝕖 𝕒𝕝𝕨𝕒𝕪𝕤 𝕨𝕖𝕝𝕔𝕠𝕞𝕖𝕙𝕖𝕣𝕖.” Working your way through each. Once finished thanking the Elements you may begin to snuff out any candles (I say snuff because I personally feel that when blowing out a candle you are not only blowing away whatever intention you manifested but always it feels disrespectful to the Fire element) and do whatever is needed to clean and pack up. Your spell workings are now complete!
