What is Wicca?
I want to first start off by saying that Wicca is NOT devil worship, Satan is a Christian belief and we are not Christians nor do we follow their beliefs. Wicca is not a cult, we don’t recruit or force our religion and beliefs on others, we mostly practice our religion alone, or in a small coven of like minded individuals.
Wiccans and Witches are not bound to any harsh laws or standards, anyone who is serious about Wicca/Witchcraft we welcome to the craft if they are in it for the right reasons. We honor both the female and male as equals, and do not honor one as more than the other.
Wicca is a religion and spiritual belief that was first introduced in the 1950’s by Gerald Gardner. Wiccan is consider one of the many belief systems under the Pagan “umbrella”, it is a nature based religion that emphasizes the worship of all aspects of nature and the cycle of life, death, and rebirth. The Wiccan religion continues to grow more and more and has encouraged many others to revive the original Pagan roots. Paganism is as old as mankind, older than christianity!
Wicca is a very spiritual religion, we find a connection with the energy around us and within us. We work with the elements of nature and celebrate the seasons through the Wheel of the Year which consists of eight Sabbats (holidays) that represent the changing of seasons (the life cycle of the Sun God & Moon Goddess).
Wicca is a very freeing religion, there aren’t any crazy rules or guidelines to live by. Wiccans are totally free to be who we want to be, love who we want to love, and do whatever the hell we want to do! Wiccans do not believe in sin, atonement, or divine judgement. We understand that we are responsible for our actions and the karma that comes with them.
Wiccans do follow the Wiccan Rede which is our guideline and principles to live by. The key things that Wiccans strive to live by is that you can do whatever it is you want to do but always remember “The Law of Three” which means that whatever you do or put out into the universe will come back to you times three! Which is why as Wiccans our practice is based around positivity, healing, and helping others so that we will have all of those aspects returned to us three fold. The same would also apply if we were doing harm to someone or putting out negative energies, then that would all come back to us three fold as well. This law can either return to you in this life time, or your next life time, as Wiccans do believe in reincarnation (which is a whole other topic) so you may think you’re getting away with something but truth is it will always make its way around, so do good and put out nothing but good energy into the world and you will always have that return to you in this life time as well as the next!
The Wiccan Rede
Bide the Wiccan Laws we must trust In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust. Live and let live,
Fairly take and fairly give.
Cast the Circle thrice about
To keep the evil spirits out
To bind the spell every time
Let the spell be spake in rhyme. Soft of eye and light of touch, Speak little, listen much.
Deosil go by the waxing moon, Chanting out the witches' Rune Widdershins go by the waning moon Chanting out the baneful rune. When the Lady's moon is new, Kiss the hand to her, times two. When the moon rides at her peak, Then your heart's desire seek Heed the North wind's mighty gale, Lock the door and drop the sail. When the wind comes from the South, Love will kiss her on the mouth. When the wind blows from the West, Departed souls will have no rest. When the wind blows from the East, Expect the new and set the feast. Nine woods in the cauldron go, Burn them fast and burn them slow. Elder be the lady's tree,
Burn it not or cursed you'll be. When the wheel begins to turn,
Let Beltane fire burn.
When the wheel has turned to Yule, Light the log and the Horned One rules. Heed Ye flower, Bush, and Tree,
By the Lady, blessed be.
Where the rippling waters go, Cast a stone and truth you'll know. When Ye have a true need, Hearken not to other's greed. With a fool no season spend,
Lest Ye be counted as his friend. Merry meet and merry part, Bright the cheeks and warm the heart. Mind the Threefold Law you should, Three times bad and Three times good. When misfortune is enow,
Wear the blue star on thy brow. True in Love ever be,
Lest thy lover's false to thee. Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill: An it harms none, do what thou wilt.
